The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, promulgated, on 10 June 2020, Law No. 14.0140 of 10 June 2020 (‘the Law’), which postpones the enforcement of Law No. 13.709 of 14 August 2018, General Personal Data Protection Law (as amended by Law No. 13.853 of 8 July 2019) (‘LGPD’) to August 2021. As a result, the enforcement provisions of the LGPD will enter into force on 1 August 2021 whilst the rest of the LGPD is scheduled to enter into force on 16 August 2020.

Finally, Provisional Measure No. 959, which was promulgated on 29 April 2020 by Bolsonaro, seeks to delay the LGPD until 3 May 2021 and is still pending approval before the Congress of Brazil.
